Updated COVID guidelines for activities, athletics, events and performances

Earlier this week, families received a message informing them about the district’s updated isolation and quarantine guidelines. These new guidelines match updated guidance from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH).

While these new guidelines apply to students and staff during school, students participating in district-sanctioned athletics, activities, performances and events, across all grade levels, will be subject to Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) COVID-19 protocols. These guidelines are different from the updates the district made earlier this week.

What it means

According to the MSHSL guidance, students who test positive for COVID-19 cannot participate in in-person activities, athletics, performances or events until all three of these things are true:

  • The student has been fever-free for at least 24 hours, without using fever-reducing medicine
  • It has been at least 10 days since the student first experienced symptoms or tested positive
  • Symptoms of cough, shortness of breath, or other symptoms are better.

Again, these guidelines will apply to all grade levels – elementary, middle and high school. Please refer to the MSHSL guidance for general questions, including middle and high school practice protocols. If you have specific questions related to school events, performances, activities or athletics, please reach out to coaches, event coordinators or performance directors.

Thank you for your continued partnership and support for our students.
