Dear Robbinsdale Area Schools Secondary Families,

I’m writing to share updates regarding our learning model transition dates for middle and high school students.

As you know, Gov. Tim Walz recently issued new guidance to school districts regarding bringing secondary students back to buildings for in-person instruction. District and school leaders have spent a lot of time discussing what the best plan would be for Robbinsdale Area Schools.

We’ve had several meetings over the past 10 days with various stakeholders -- including families, District staff and school administrative teams. After gathering feedback, the Incident Command Team discussed the recommendations, and we have also reviewed our plan with our regional team of health experts.

Some of the feedback we heard was it was important for students to remain with the teachers they currently have. I’m pleased to say we were able to honor this request by offering a concurrent teaching model. This means students who will be in the buildings, and those who are remaining in distance learning, will be taught by the same teacher at the same time.

It’s important to share that many of our staff have been vaccinated, and for those who want it, they will continue to receive opportunities to get vaccinated. We are confident the majority of our staff will have had at least the first dose by the beginning of April.

Staff continue to practice a wide variety of mitigation strategies including participating in contact tracing and saliva testing, wearing face coverings, social distancing and following strict hand-washing protocols.

As we move forward and as we welcome our secondary students back, please read the information below carefully.

On Wednesdays, secondary students will continue to engage in asynchronous (not live) distance learning from home. The Student Support Centers will also be open on Wednesdays.

Distance Learning PLUS

For families who wish to remain in a full-time virtual learning environment, Distance Learning PLUS remains an option. To register for Distance Learning PLUS, families should email DLSchoolSecondary@rdale.org to sign up as the state requires change requests to be made in writing. The deadline for secondary families to register is Friday, March 12. Please remember that Student Support Centers are available at each school to assist distance learning students as needed.

Please visit our Frequently Asked Questions page for additional information about our safety protocols.

Thank you for your patience, flexibility and feedback as we experience a school year like none other. We know this has been a challenge for our students and families, staff and the community. We are in this together!

Sincerely,

Dr. Stephanie Burrage
Interim Superintendent
